The spring weather’s been cool, and the New York Mets are hot. The Major League Baseball season is underway!
If you’re a baseball fan, great news: there are now so many ways to watch the 2018 season. You don’t have to be tied down to your TV set, a cable provider, or your couch–unless you want to be.
Let’s review some of the ways you can watch the play-by-play of your favorite teams. And we’ll talk about how Bergen IT can make your baseball watching experience feel more like you’re at the ball park.
Live Broadcast & Cable TV
In most of the country, if you have broadcast or cable TV, a local channel is available for you to watch on your TV. Whether it’s the YES Network for the Yankees, SNY for the Mets, or Sportstime Ohio for the Cleveland Indians, these channels host MLB games live. The majority of game-watching requires a cable box and purchasing a cable subscription.
Want your baseball experience to be an immersive experience? Bergen IT will set up and install any televisions, speakers, and more that you might need to watch games in high definition, with surround sound, or even outdoors. See our pages on Home Theater and Installations for more.
Streaming Baseball from MLB
Want to get your baseball fix watching games on a device other than your television? There are a few options for streaming your favorite matchups.
NBC Sports Live
NBCUniversal’s “TV Everywhere” initiative is putting a significant emphasis on accessing sports through mobile devices. If you already have cable and are a Mets fan, for example, NBC Sports has partnered with SNY to broadcast their Mets games on the NBC Sports Live App and website live for no additional charge. However, you must log in to your cable network account to access this.
The same offer is available for Phillies games through NBC Sports Philadelphia, as well as many other regional sports stations.
Interested? Bergen IT can get you set up on your phone, tablet, laptop, or smart TV to be able to watch these games on your mobile devices.
MLB.TV
If you don’t want to pay for cable but still need your baseball fix, MLB has its own streaming service: MLB.TV.
Through MLB.TV, you can stream any currently-airing baseball game live. You can also get past games on demand. But here’s the catch: MLB.TV isn’t cheap. You can save a few bucks if you’re interested in just following a single-team. MLB.TV is available on Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, LG, Samsung, and more.
Bergen IT can set MLB.TV up for you, as well as any of the above devices and speakers that you’d use to access the games.
MLB Facebook Live
MLB is partnering with Facebook this season to livestream 25 regular season day games exclusively through Facebook’s video streaming platform.
If this partnership consistently rakes in viewers, we can expect Facebook to start broadcasting an increasing amount of live sports games.
The next games to be broadcast on Facebook Live will be:
April 18: Kansas City Royals at Toronto Blue Jays, 4:07 PM
April 26: Arizona Diamondbacks at Philadelphia Phillies, 1:05 PM
Watch them here.
